Bootup

Using your bootable installation disk

Usually you cannot install FreeDOS from your current operating system. Instead, instruct your computer to use your FreeDOS disk as startup device. First, place the disk in your drive (diskette in diskette drive, cdrom into any drive that can read your recorded cdrom disk). If your system directly boots up from harddisk as first device, change the boot sequence permanently (in system BIOS, can be reached by pressing a special key, which dependent on your system could be DEL, ESC, F2, F10, F12 or another key) or temporary (the ESC key seems to work, or on some systems F8 for 'BBS popup screen'). If you intend to startup from diskette, select diskette drive. For CD-ROM, select your cd drive.

The installation disk will now start. Depending on which type of disk this is, you will see a different initial screen (see below). One way or another, you will reach the FreeDOS menu screen very early in the installation process.

At the menu system, either select a menu entry, or wait a few seconds to allow the FreeDOS installation process to configure settings on its own.
