Edlin

Edlin is a LINe based EDitor. That is, one writes a document one line at a time and can go back and edit any line, but only one line may be actively created or modified at time (no cursor keys or mouse to move between lines, instead special commands are used to proceed to a specific line). EDIT is a much better program in a notepad-like environment.

Someone please EDIT me and improve on above description! Thanks!

FreeDOS EDLIN, by Gregory Pietsch, is a 16bit DOS application (it can be recompiled for 32-bit, it's generic enough) with support for both compile-time and runtime language selections. It also can be compiled under the MS-Windows and Unix environments.

I am sorry to write on the Edlin page, but I did not find how to create a new page for my topic :

I use my favorite editor, vim with freedos, but when I set shareext, it fails to write temporary files in temp directory; I think it comes from the exclusive specification (this means vim opens the files two times in write mode).

If you can get me in touch with the last maintainer of the vim version, maybe it can be improved.
